Monica has been teaching yoga within the Durham Region since 2019. She encourages students to embrace their own needs throughout practice, with hopes that each individual finds whatever they were looking for on their mats. Her favourite styles include gentle hatha, yin, and restorative to help balance out our busy lives. Over the years she has taught indoors, outdoors, as well as virtually, and most recently has started offering a variety of fitness classes.
Monica dabbled with yoga through her late teens, but began taking the practice more seriously after realizing how it could help provide relief from the physical and mental demands of her day job. After joking about how she'd abandon Veterinary medicine to go teach on a tropical beach somewhere, she decided to start down her teacher training path and completed her 200hr with YogaFit in 2019, dove deeper completing her 300hr in 2021, and finally branching out to complete her Fitness Instructor Specialist Certification with CanfitPro in 2023.
Outside of teaching in studios, Monica also brings wellness workshops to local vet clinics as a way to give back and help advocate for wellness within the profession. She can also be found leading classes out of local breweries, as well as recording classes for YouTube.
As someone who believes we are never done learning, she loves attending classes for herself, and continues to take teacher trainings to broaden her knowledge, always eager to learn new things to share with others. She truly believes that yoga is for every body and everybody, and that we should be celebrating our bodies with movement instead of punishing them. Regardless of back ground, shape, or size, there is something for everyone to take away from practice.
